When apply for Training Visa (Subclass 407)?

Designed to support professionals in undertaking development training or on-the-job training in Australia, to enhance the workers' skills or provide post-study experience.

 

This is a temporary visa available to anyone in Australia or outside the country who wants to participate in a professional activity on Australian soil for up to two years, such as an intern, volunteer, professional development training, temporary contribution to work, short-term project and any other work activity during the period of the visa granted.

 

Any organisation operating legally in Australia, a government agency, a foreign government agency and a religious institution may nominate, as an approved sponsor, workers to participate in the organisation's vocational training.

 

The workers nominated by the applicant company must have at least 12 months of experience in the last 24 months related to the trainee’s occupation.

 

This may be work experience for professionals or study experience for students. In this case, the student must have undertaken at least one year of study related to the occupation in the last 24 months.

 

With a Training Visa, workers can engage in work-related activities to meet occupational registration or licensing requirements, improve skills in their occupation, participate in overseas training work, gain continuing professional development (CPD) experience or training, and enhance skills related to higher education studies.

 

Visa specifications:

 

  • This visa does not offer any pathway to permanent residence, it is focused on a short-term work experience in the country valid for up to two years.
  • The worker must be indicated by the training company.
  • Training visas are subject to ‘condition 8102’, which prohibits work that is not related to the course or training specified as the basis for your visa application.
  • Secondary applicants must not engage in work for more than 40 hours a fortnight while the holder is in Australia.
  • With the approved visa, the worker can travel to and from Australia as many times as they want.
  • Business must certify that the applicant worker has turned 18, has functional English, holds private health insurance, and has at least 12 months of experience in the last 24 months related to the trainee’s occupation.

Training Visa Streams:

  • Workplace-Based Training Stream – For individuals who need practical experience to improve skills in an occupation listed on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List.
  • Professional Development Stream – For international professionals to participate in training programs in Australia.
  • Training for Registration or Licensing – If the training is required for registration, licensing or membership of a professional body.

The company must submit a copy of the training contract or agreement, including payment if the visa applicant is an employee. Details of all training periods and locations. This includes on-the-job training, classroom training and supervised work activities. A statement confirming that the nominee has functional English language skills to attend the training.

 

Other specific documentation is required for occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation, and occupational training for capacity building overseas.
