Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) 2025: How It Impacts Employers

Written by Seven Corp | Sep 11, 2025 1:30:00 AM
The Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), introduced in December 2024, replaced the old MLTSSL, STSOL and ROL lists. It currently includes 456 eligible occupations for visas such as the 482 and 186.

What Is the CSOL?

  • A single national list of jobs eligible for skilled visas.
  • Reviewed regularly by Jobs and Skills Australia.
  • Can include or exclude specialisations within occupations.

Why Employers Must Pay Attention

  • If your job is not on the CSOL, you cannot sponsor under standard pathways.
  • Occupations may change or be restricted by caveats (e.g., chefs with limited eligibility).
  • Alternative arrangements via Specialist and Labour Agreement streams may be available for excluded occupations.

Examples

  • Healthcare: nurses and aged care workers remain eligible.
  • Construction: trades like carpenters and electricians included.
  • IT: some niche specialisations restricted from the CSOL due to oversupply which may require alternative arrangements.

Employer Checklist

  • Check if your role is currently on the CSOL.
  • Watch for updates and caveats.
  • Explore labour agreements if your occupation is excluded.
